The smaller the government is, the better, the less burdensome the government is, the better and the less involved the government is, the better. Life and politics shouldn’t be that complicated.
Instinctively, I trust people, not the government. People should be allowed to live freely and have autonomy over their own lives and property.
The government is entrusted with basic duties. Those duties should mainly be focused on providing for our safety and preserving our Rights.
RIGHT TO PROPERTY
A basic principle of freedom to be able to own property and to have say over that property and how it is used. When the government grows too large and too intrusive, it makes it burdensome for landowners to use their land as they intend. Property taxes need to pay for essential services, but also needs to be reasonable. People should not be taxed out of their homes. Every dollar spent should be scrutinized for efficiency and necessity.
PUBLIC SAFETY SHOULD BE A PRIORITY
There are some things that our local, state, and federal government should do well. One of those is providing protection and safety for its citizens. We need stable funding to provide public-safety, adequate training, and staffing. Local law enforcement officers and firefighters are on the front lines daily. When we call 911, we expect timely and professional help. Anything less will not suffice. As a Fire Commissioner, I have seen firsthand the sacrifice first responders make for us to live securely and safely. They have our backs, and we need to have theirs.
